Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-05-29
This privacy policy explains how zentie handles personal data on our marketing website and in the zentie web application. It covers data protection practices, optional cookies, how we work with service providers, and the choices you have. It should be read together with our terms of service, which describe contractual rules for using the product.
Who we are
zentie provides personal SEO intelligence software: a public marketing site at zentie.ai and a signed-in product at app.zentie.ai. We act as the data controller for personal data described on this page, unless we state otherwise for a specific integration you connect. For privacy questions, data subject requests, or security reports, contact support@zentie.ai or use our contact page. General product questions are also answered in our marketing FAQ.
What we process
- Account data — name, email, authentication identifiers when you register or sign in.
- Product data — projects, domains, crawl and SEO metrics you connect to the service.
- Billing — billing profile and payment handled by Paddle when you subscribe.
- Optional analytics — Google Analytics 4 on the marketing site and/or app, only if you accept analytics cookies.
- Optional error monitoring — Sentry on the app (errors and limited session replay), only if you accept that category in cookie preferences.
- Email marketing — only if you opt in separately in account settings or signup (not controlled by the cookie banner).
Examples. When you create an account through registration in the zentie app, we store credentials and profile fields needed to sign you in. When you add a domain or run a crawl, we process URLs, crawl results, and derived SEO metrics so the dashboard can show rankings, health issues, and recommended actions. If you subscribe, Paddle processes payment card or wallet details; we receive subscription status and limited billing metadata, not full card numbers. See our pricing page for plan types that affect what product data is retained.
How we use personal data
We use data to deliver and improve the zentie SEO intelligence product: authenticate you, sync projects, generate reports, operate billing, respond to support requests, and maintain security. We do not sell your personal data. We do not use optional analytics on the marketing site to build advertising profiles. Product analytics and error monitoring on the app run only when you opt in through cookie preferences (or equivalent controls where we offer them).
If you contact us through the marketing form, we use your message and contact details only to handle that inquiry and any follow-up you request. Retention for support mail is limited to what we need for the thread and ordinary business records.
Legal bases (summary)
Under the GDPR and similar laws, we need a lawful basis for each processing activity. In practice we rely on:
- Contract — to provide accounts, projects, crawls, billing, and features you subscribe to.
- Legitimate interests — for example fraud prevention, service reliability, and limited product telemetry that does not override your rights (we document balancing where required).
- Consent — for optional analytics cookies, optional Sentry on the app, and marketing emails where consent is the appropriate basis.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with law (for example tax or payment rules via Paddle).
Cookies and similar technologies
Use anytime to change optional cookies. Choices are
stored in a consent cookie (zentie_cc)
shared across zentie.ai and app.zentie.ai where configured.
| Category | Examples | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Session / auth cookies; Paddle when you pay | Yes |
| Analytics | Google Analytics (_ga, related
cookies) if accepted | No — opt in |
| Error monitoring (app) | Sentry browser SDK if accepted | No — opt in |
| Consent storage | zentie_cc | Set when you choose |
We do not use analytics cookies for advertising profiles. When analytics is off, Google tags are not loaded (or storage is denied via Google Consent Mode). For a plain-language overview of the product, see the how it works section on our homepage; it does not replace this policy but helps explain what features may trigger optional processing.
Security measures
We design the service with data protection in mind: access controls for production systems, encrypted transport (HTTPS) for web traffic, and segmentation between marketing and application environments. Authentication uses industry-standard flows; secrets and keys are not stored in client-side code. We limit employee access to personal data to roles that need it for support, engineering, or operations.
No online service can guarantee perfect security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact support@zentie.ai promptly so we can help you secure access. We will notify users and regulators of personal data breaches where we are legally required to do so.
Retention
Account and project data are kept while your account is active so you can continue using dashboards, history, and connected domains. You can request deletion of your account and associated product data through account settings in the app (subject to any legal holds or backup cycles). After deletion, residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before they roll off.
Consent choices for cookies are stored in your browser (for example zentie_cc) until they expire or you clear
site data. Billing records handled by Paddle may be retained according to
Paddle’s and our accounting obligations. Server and security logs may be kept
for a shorter window to investigate abuse; exact statutory periods for some
categories will be confirmed in the legally reviewed version of this policy.
Processors and hosting
We use subprocessors (processors) to run the service. Depending on features you use, this can include hosting and edge delivery (for example Vercel), database and backend infrastructure, Google (Analytics only if you accept analytics cookies), Sentry (only if you accept error monitoring on the app), Paddle (subscription checkout and payments), Brevo (transactional and, if you opt in, marketing email), and authentication providers. We choose vendors with appropriate contractual terms and, where relevant, data processing agreements.
When you enable third-party integrations in the product (such as analytics or search consoles you connect), those providers may process data under their own policies as well. You control many of those connections in the app; we recommend reviewing each provider’s documentation before linking an account.
International transfers
zentie is operated from Europe, but our infrastructure and subprocessors may process personal data in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries where they maintain facilities. When data leaves the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards where required by law, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, supplementary measures where needed, and vendor assessments.
You can request more information about transfers relevant to your account by contacting support. A definitive subprocessor list with locations will be published after legal review; this policy will be updated when that list is available.
Your rights
Depending on where you live and applicable law (including the GDPR in the EEA/UK), you may have the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- Access — receive a copy of personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data (many profile fields can be updated in the app).
- Erasure — ask us to delete data when we no longer need it or you withdraw consent where consent was the basis.
- Restriction and objection — limit or object to certain processing, including in some cases legitimate-interest processing.
- Portability — receive data you provided in a structured, commonly used format where technically feasible.
- Withdraw consent — for processing based on consent (for example marketing email or optional cookies), without affecting prior lawful processing.
To exercise these rights, email support@zentie.ai from the address associated with your account or describe your request on the contact form. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling sensitive requests. We aim to respond within the timeframes required by law (often one month under GDPR). You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; in Norway this is Datatilsynet.
Children and automated decisions
zentie is aimed at professionals and businesses, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16 (or the higher age set by local law). If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Our product may rank or prioritize SEO tasks using algorithms and, where enabled, AI-assisted explanations. These outputs support your decisions; they do not produce legal or similarly significant effects solely by automated means without human involvement. You remain responsible for changes you publish to your sites.
Privacy FAQ
Do I have to accept analytics cookies to use zentie?
No. Essential cookies and authentication are required to sign in and use paid features, but analytics and Sentry are optional. Use on this site or in the app footer to change your choice at any time.
Where is my crawl and ranking data stored?
Product data is stored in our cloud infrastructure provided by vetted subprocessors. Some providers may process data outside the EEA; see International transfers below. Connecting Google Search Console or similar tools may also involve those providers’ regions.
How do I stop marketing emails?
Marketing email is separate from the cookie banner. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing message or turn off marketing in account settings. Transactional messages about billing or security may still be sent when necessary to perform our contract with you.
Does this policy apply to the app and the website?
Yes. This page describes both zentie.ai and app.zentie.ai unless we call out a difference (for example optional Sentry applies on the app). Contractual terms for use of the software are in our terms of service.
Changes
We may update this privacy policy as our product, vendors, or legal obligations change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest version. Material changes to how we use cookies or similar technologies may prompt a new consent prompt in the cookie banner. For substantive contract changes, we may also notify you through the app or email where appropriate. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy, except where law requires a different form of notice or consent.
